How to Care for DTF Printed Apparel (So It Lasts)
Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing creates vibrant, durable designs—when cared for correctly. Follow these simple steps to keep your print looking sharp wash after wash.

- Wash inside out in cold water
- Use mild detergent
- Do NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets
- Tumble dry low or hang dry
- Do not iron directly on the print
Why Proper DTF Care Matters
DTF prints are bonded to fabric using heat and pressure. They’re made to be flexible and long-lasting, but improper washing and drying can weaken that bond over time. Most early wear issues come from care mistakes (heat, softeners, or aggressive washing), not from the print.
DTF Garment Care Instructions
1) Turn Garments Inside Out
Wash DTF-printed apparel inside out to reduce abrasion on the print surface.
2) Wash in Cold Water
Cold water is best. Hot water can soften adhesives over time and shorten the life of the print.
3) Use Mild Detergent Only
Choose a standard, gentle detergent. Avoid “heavy-duty” detergents that can be harsher on printed surfaces.
4) Do NOT Use Fabric Softener or Dryer Sheets
Fabric softeners and dryer sheets leave a waxy residue on fabric. That residue can reduce adhesion and may cause premature cracking or peeling over time. Skipping softener is one of the best ways to extend the life of your DTF print.
5) Dry on Low Heat or Hang Dry
High heat is the fastest way to break down printed apparel. Tumble dry low or hang dry whenever possible.
6) Do Not Iron Directly on the Print
If ironing is needed, turn the garment inside out or place a pressing cloth over the design. Never apply a hot iron directly to a DTF print.

How Long Should a DTF Print Last?
With proper care, DTF prints can last many wash cycles while staying flexible and vibrant. The biggest enemies are heat and softener residue—avoid those and you’ll get the longest life from your garment.
